Isaiah 40:31(NIV) but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

The word “Advent” is derived from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming,” which is a translation of the Greek word parousia.

The Bible has several prophecies that describe “The Good News” of the coming messiah. Some even depict how He would die a sacrificial death for the salvation of others. Here are seven of those prophecies that bring us  “The Good News of Hope”.

1. The Good News of the VIRGIN BIRTH FORETOLD
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.”  Isaiah 7:14

Immanuel means “God with us. Jesus told His disciples, “If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him” (John 14:7). Jesus was referring to Himself as “God with them.”

2. The Good News of the BIRTHPLACE FOREKNOWN
"But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times" (Micah 5:2).

3. The Good News of the ANCESTRY PREDETERMINED
“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.” Jeremiah 23:5

The first chapter of the New Testament (Matthew 1) traces Jesus’ ancestry all the way back to David.

4. The Good News of the DIVINE QUALITIES FORETOLD
"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6).

5. The Good News of the KINGLY ENTRY INTO JERUSALEM DESCRIBED
"Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”  Zechariah 9:9

6. The Good News of the CRUCIFIXION DETAILED
"Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet. All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.” Psalm 22:16-18

7. The Good News the SIGNIFICANCE OF JESUS’ DEATH DESCRIBED
"But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all" (Isaiah 53:5-6).
