Ask, Seek, Knock
Matthew 7:7-11
7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? 10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! 11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.
I. Ask with Confidence Because God Invites You (vv. 7–8)
7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
Jeremiah 29:13 "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Seeking means: Reading Scripture, Worship, Prayer, Fellowship, Obedience, & Serving others
Hebrews 4:16 "Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.”
II. Knock Until the Door Opens (vv. 7–8)
7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
James 1:3 says, "The testing of your faith produces endurance."
III. Trust the Father's Heart (vv. 9–10)
9 “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? 10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not!
Romans 8:28 reminds us God works everything together for the good of those who love Him.
IV. Believe God Gives What Is Truly Good (v.11)
So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.
Draw close to God, and God will draw close to you." (James 4:8, NLT)
