Everyday Discipleship — Living Daily as a Christ Follower

Week 1 Start Your Day with Jesus
John 15:5–8 (NLT)

“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. 6 Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. 7 But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! 8 When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.

I. Remain in His Presence
John 15:5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.

1. Our relationship with Jesus must be daily
2. Our strength comes from staying connected
3. Our fruit reveals our connection

II. Receive His Word
Psalm 119:105  Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.

The Word of God does 3 things:
1. God's Word directs our steps
2. God's Word corrects our thinking
James 1:22 tells believers to be doers of the Word, not merely hearers who deceive themselves.
3. God's Word calls for a response
James 1:22 tells believers to be doers of the Word

III. Respond in Obedience
John 14:15 “If you love me, obey my commandments.

1. Obedience puts faith into action
2. Obedience requires surrender
3. Obedience develops Christlike character

I want to leave you with three questions:
1. Am I remaining connected to Jesus, or am I trying to live the Christian life in my own strength?
2. Am I allowing God's Word to shape my decisions, or am I simply reading it without responding to it?
3. What is one thing Jesus is calling me to change or do today?
