Our Identity In The Fight pt2
Ephesians 6:16-20 NLT

16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. 19 And pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike. 20 I am in chains now, still preaching this message as God’s ambassador. So pray that I will keep on speaking boldly for him, as I should.

I. Shield of Faith
16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.

II.   Helmet of Salvation
17 Put on salvation as your helmet,

Romans 8:37-38 NLT 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. 38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

III.   Sword of the Spirit
and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

zatthew 4:3-4 NLT During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” 4 But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’

Matthew 4:5-7 NLT  Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, 6 and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, ‘He will order his angels to protect you. And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’” 7 Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.’”

Matthew 4: 8-11 NLT Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.” 10 “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ’You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’” 11 Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus.

Psalms 119:11I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

IV.  Persistent Prayers

Prayer must be:
a. Ceaseless- 1 Thessalonians 5:17 “Never stop praying.”
b. Earnest- James 5:16 “16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”
c. Selfless- Matthew 5:44 “But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!”
