Discipled by Jesus
Are you listening to me?

Luke 9:35 Then a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him.”

So let’s figure out how to listen to Jesus
I.The Father Commands Us To Listen To JESUS

Luke 9:35 Then a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him.”

In one of the very few times we have record of the audible voice of God the Father, He commands that we LISTEN to His Son whom He loves and with whom He is well pleased.

II.  Why Do We Not Hear Jesus?

Here is a few reasons:
 1. We don’t recognize His voice.
John 10:27
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

2.  We do not recognize his presence
Matthew 28:20
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

2 Corinthians 10:5
We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

3.  We Talk to much
 Matthew 13:9-13
Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.”10 His disciples came and asked him, “Why do you use parables when you talk to the people?”11 He replied, “You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not. 12 To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.

Luke 9:35 …“This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him.”

Luke 9:35 …“This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him.”

4. We get too distracted by the worries of the world.

Mark 4:19 but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced.

III.  How Do We Hear From Jesus

Here are a few ways:
1. We listen for His Voice.
John 10:27
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

John 16:13-14
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. 14 He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.

2.  We hear from Other Believers
2 Corinthians 5:20
So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”

2 Corinthians 1:23-24
Now I call upon God as my witness that I am telling the truth. The reason I didn’t return to Corinth was to spare you from a severe rebuke. 24 But that does not mean we want to dominate you by telling you how to put your faith into practice. We want to work together with you so you will be full of joy, for it is by your own faith that you stand firm.

Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

3. Know His Word
John 1:1
In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 Timothy 2:15 Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.

“The Bible is not an end in itself, but a means to bring men to an intimate and satisfying knowledge of God, that they may enter into Him, that they may delight in His Presence, may taste and know the inner sweetness of the very God Himself in the core and center of their hearts.”  A.W. Tozer
